The Statue is a giant neo-classical sculpture that stands 305 feet in height on Liberty Island in the New York harbor. The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. Meant to be a gift from the people of France to the United States, the statue has stood mightily in the harbor since 1886.
